ABOUT ME

I was born in a small town in South Carolina. Through life’s journey, I found a great joy in helping others. I have spent the past twenty-five years working with adolescents and college students. I have developed and led afterschool programs, summer camps, community outreaches even launching a non-profit with my wife.

EXPERIENCE

For many years, I have helped people with their emotional needs. Also, I have provided consulting for people currently “feeling stuck” in life. Generally, college students want to gain a fresh perspective on issues that they are facing in order to move forward when life gets stressful. Many clients that I have worked with wanted to improve their present lives for a more stable one in order to leave a positive legacy for their loved ones.

Therapy Approach

“Unlike most therapists, I do not use just one approach in treatment. I have found each patient has individual needs. I use an eclectic approach to working with my patients which allows for a more tailored treatment plan resulting in greater success.”

Psychoanalysis & Psychodynamic Therapy

In these approaches, the focus is changing problematic behaviors, feelings, and thoughts by discovering unconscious meanings and motivations. Psychoanalytical-oriented therapies are characterized by a close working partnership between therapist and client. Clients learn about themselves by exploring their interactions in the therapeutic relationship.

Behavior Therapy

This approach focuses on client’s role in developing both normal and abnormal behaviors.

Cognitive Therapy

Cognitive therapy emphasizes what the client thinks rather than what the client does. Cognitive therapists believe that it is dysfunctional thinking that leads to dysfunctional emotions or behaviors. By changing the client’s thoughts, the client can change how he/she feels and what he/she does.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is often used to address the client’s addiction and management of physical health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. Motivational interviewing is also appropriate for clients who are angry or hostile. The client may not be ready to commit to change, but motivational interviewing can help the client move through the stages of change necessary to find motivation. Motivational interviewing helps clients become motivated to change the behaviors that are preventing the client from making healthier choices. It can also prepare clients for further specific types of therapies.

Anxiety Management

The aim of the client’s treatment is to develop skills in managing anxiety. The clients are taught specific anxiety-reduction skills, relaxation training, positive self-talk, and distraction techniques. Anxiety management has been successful.
